Amdcleanuputility (v 1.4.0.0) seems to corrupt Creative X-Fi software manager

Post by Blín D'ñero »

Problem: amdcleanuputility (v 1.4.0.0) seems to corrupt Creative X-Fi software manager.

System specs:
i7 920 @ 3.8 Ghz (19×200) * ZALMAN CPNS9900LED * Asus P6T Deluxe V2 (bios 610) * 12 GB Corsair CMD12GX3M6A1600C8 DDR3 [triple channel] * XFX 3GB D5 HD7970 Dual Fan @ stock * Creative X-Fi Titanium Fatality Pro [PCI-E] * 7 x WDC WD1002FAEX * Corsair HX 850W * Optiarc DVD RW AD-5240S * 3 x Dell U2410 @ 1920x1200/60Hz = Eyefinity * Coolermaster Stacker * Steelseries G7 * Logitech G9 * Klipsch Promedia 2.1 * Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1 *

Problem Description:
Uninstalling (via AMD Install Manager) Cat 14.7 RC3 > Reboot and then running amdcleanuputility (v 1.4.0.0) after it (because i was going back to a previous driver version), resulted in Creative X-Fi Auto-update for some reason kicking in, and failing with whatever it wanted to do.

After installing Catalyst 14.4 WHQL and a reboot, Creative X-Fi Auto-update took another chance and came up with the whole package of drivers (XFTI_PCDRV_L11_2_40_0008) and secondary software that i already had installed, to be installed again.

Very odd... because in Program Files (x86)/Creative all the drivers and software are still there and the Creative Diagnostics tests show that everything is still 100% all right and working with the card. It seems to me that amdcleanuputility has caused a corruption in the Creative X-Fi drivers and software manager. "Updating" them at the moment...

Why would AMD's software touch Creative's? I always do Custom install and always untick AMD's HD Audio drivers, and Gaming Evolved.

Edit: all done, and i'm very happy to mention that with Cat 14.4 WHQL, monitor sleep in Eyefinity (3-screen) is working again as it should, and no BSOD's anymore.

Funny:
On my single monitor gaming system. Before installing Catalyst 14.9.1...
After uninstalling Catalyst 14.7 RC3 (Option: "Express uninstall all AMD software") and rebooting, this appeared on screen:

No corruption with the X-Fi drivers though and sound still works as it should.
