Prince of Persia Prodigy

Post by Blín D'ñero »

On April 15, 2008, video game designer Jordan Mechner, the creator and owner of the Prince of Persia game franchise, filed to protect the trademark Prince of Persia Prodigy in relation to “game software and electronic game programs; electronic game software for mobile phones, personal digital assistants, and handheld computers”.

Since Mechner is the owner of the trademarks Prince of Persia, Prince of Persia The Sands of Time, Prince of Persia Warrior Within and Prince of Persia The Two Thrones, and has licensed the property to Ubisoft for the aforementioned games, Mork suspects that Prince of Persia Prodigy might be the name of the next-gen sequel to the Sands of Time trilogy that has been rumored about since 2006.

In addition, a Prince of Persia film is currently in pre-production and will be directed by Mike Newell and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. When Gamasutra asked Mechner in December of 2007 regarding the connection between the name of the film and the name of future Prince of Persia games, he refused to comment, suggesting there might be a connection.

Late last year, Surfer Girl Reviews claimed that Prince of Persia 4 would be called Prince of Persia Ghosts of the Past. But given this new trademark filing, and the fact that the Ghosts of the Past name has not been trademarked or mentioned since, Mork wonders if Mechner and Ubisoft have either changed their minds with regard to the name, or have some other version or platform port in the works

New Prince of Persia dated

Author: Joe Martin
Published: 16th May 2008

The new Prince of Persia should be released late this year according to Ubisoft.
Finally the details have snuck out on the new Prince of Persia game from Ubisoft, and gamers can learn a bit more about the new adventures of the prince from, uh, Persia.

The new Prince of Persia game is a radical departure for the series - not only will it eschew the traditional presentation in favour of a more unique, cel-shaded look, but the game will also be completely detached from the previous trilogy. No more time-travelling daggers or Monica Belluci-voiced villains.

Instead, Prince of Persia will star a more fantastical, steel-gauntleted Prince as he explores a more free-roaming world in an attempt to undo a new evil he has accidentally released. The new game apparently draws much inspiration from the stories of Scheherazade, otherwise known as One Thousand and One Nights.

Ubisoft meanwhile has confirmed that the new PoP will debut in the third fiscal quarter - or sometime between October and December to you and me. The game is expected to launch on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. Wii and DS versions of the game are also rumoured.

No co-op in new Prince of Persia

News by Ellie Gibson

Prince of Persia producer Ben Mattes has confirmed to Eurogamer the game won't feature a co-op mode - despite the fact he'll have a sidekick.

As announced yesterday, new character Elika will help the Prince perform acrobatic stunts, fight enemies and explore environments. Useful in single player, but will you be able to bring in a friend to take on Elika's role?

"No, is the short answer," Mattes told Eurogamer. "The longer answer is it's impossible to capture the flow of the two characters' interaction between human players."

Elika's AI is extremely complex, apparently, and an important foundation of the game. "You could not choreograph that type of movement if two people playing the game were fighting over what to do," observed Mattes. "So no."

Prince of Persia, as it's simply titled, is out on 360, PS3, PC and DS in time for Christmas. Expect a full interview with Mattes soon.
