  • ANNOYING
    • Happened only once yet. Hope to never see it again, when attempting to playing a singleplayer game on my own PC.

  • DOORS CLOSED (GREEN BUTTON GONE) AFTER BACKTRACKING
The game doesn't block you from backtracking. But still, if you do you might get trapped!
    • Lazarus Research Station. Started new Game (3d). After meeting Jacob and doing the "add squad power to your hit".
Then, through the corridor into the smaller dark red hall killing 3 mechs.
      THEN IT COMES:
After killing those 3 mechs, you hear Wilson (?) screaming, and you are supposed to go in that direction. But the corridor you came from is still open. Backtracking through that corridor (door is still open), to the lighted hall where Shepard just met Jacob for the first time, and listen to the log on the bench. Upon returning, the door is now closed, no green button to open it! Apparently the closing of that door is on a timer.
If you didn't save (i did), reload autosave.

  • Trooper out of cardboard
    • Lorek Eclipse Base in Insanity mode.
When Shepard opens the door, immediately two Troopers start shooting. One of the two has no bodily movement at all: looks like a cardboard figure sliding over a rail, left to right, and back. Sometimes stands still, spreads arms as to invite us to shoot him as much as we like.
Or WAS it a joke? Forgot to take screenshots. will do on my 3d playthrough.

  • SHAMELESS STEALING
    • Such a nice Refugee couple... still, Shepard just takes what's in their Wall Safe. After or even before a conversation, doesn't matter. Shepard takes it anyway, and that's just after she told looters in another room to stop their miserable practice (stealing from dead people)!

Just when i used 'paragon' approach to them, saying i want to help them etc. It feels awkward when at the same time i snatch their cash... while they're still in the room!
and what's even more odd: they don't bother one second about it!
      :inv:

  • WALLS MISSING.
    • This is not from a reloaded save, this is straight on playing. I just arrived there again (playing my 3d playround): this bug appeared every time.
    • Recruit Mordin mission. Just before the battle with the Vorcha in the room where Shepard has to reinitialize the system by inserting the cure. Walking towards the door to that room, then -before opening it- looking back, all walls of the room she's still standing in have disappeared. She takes one step into that direction (so: back to where she came), and it all appears again.

Make Shepard stand with nose against the door, then...:

      Image

...turn around and see the room has disappeared:

      Image

Take one step, and voilá! It's back again.

      Image
  • The same as above happened in the "Close the Shuttle Door" sub-mission in Recruit Archangel: the third shuttle i played was the left one. Run to the button and hit it- jump back over one block then hide in the first opening in the wall next to it, ready to shoot the approaching Krogan. Just before i could aim i saw all the walls had disappeared and the shuttle door fell down and shut in open space, which was red-brown colored as in the above pictures.

  • UNREACHEABLE AMMO
    • Can happen anywhere.
And it is just... injust! :eh:
Sometimes you really need it! :((

Why can it go there and i cannot?! It should go only where Shepard can go too.

  • in Korlus, Recruit Grunt mission, the first part half into the big construction all doors back remain open. When backtracking for ammo, you can walk back to start of mission.
But it triggers the battles inside the building upstairs, to start all over again. All the enemies that you just killed, are respawned again.

  • Confused squad members
What use is a squad that doesn't understand the basics of following orders. At least on some locations it's like they're on crack. I point them where i want them, and they either stay where they are or go sitting somewhere else and say "Got it" "Understood" or "Right here". I do the shooting while they stay idle miles away staring at a wall or a rock...

With patch 1.01 Collect Research is not L-Shift anymore
Not a bug but a change without notice...
  • Hammerhead DLC was released after the patch wasn't it?... :wth:
I'm currenty playing the game without the patch installed, and in the Hammerhead mission, jump is "Left Shift" and " right-mouse" to collect research; while after the patch is installed jump is "E", collect research is "V".
* [update June 21, 2010] or the other way around. :???: When i installed Overlord, the patch was installed again automatically. Hammerhead's Jump is now Left-Shift, Collect is right mouse button.
* [update february 2012] not anymore.
Image
I'm replaying the game, and no matter what the screen says, it is now again "E" .

With Kasumi DLC, female Shepard gets a horrible knee-problem.
Although Shepard in the new casual outfit obtained with the Kasumi DLC is high res, very beautiful and well designed (style, acceptable anatomy and skin), she now has failed knee joints, revealed when kneeling down.
Frightening knees. :horror:

:yikes:

Obviously this outfit for the Kasumi DLC wasn't finished, the design for the legs haven't been fully worked out. :fp:

Tali's father invisible during cutscene
[edit 2012: this problem seems to have been fixed by installing one of the latest DLC's]

When finding Tali's father, he is lying at the bottom of the stairs.

Image

Without hitting Spacebar to trigger it, Tali's reaction starts automatically (there are more spots throughout the game where interaction is automatically bypassed).

Image

During the closeup scene, her father's body isn't there anymore, Tali is talking to empty space.

Image

Image

After the scene, when distant camera is restored, his body reappears.

Highly annoying aspect of Firewalker missions
  • ... is that there is no savegame point at the start. Meaning that when Firewalker ship is shot and explodes, you have to restart from scratch and select squad again (even though in the Firewalker it doesn't matter which squadmembers accompany you, they don't do much anyway). :fp:
Several of the 'non-firewalker' missions have that too btw, but at least there you can manually save.
  • So when you die during some (not all) of the Firewalker missions, you are set back at the start with the squad selection. Being set back at mission start makes me mad enough to end the game for a while. BUT YOU CANNOT END THE MISSION DURING SQUAD SELECTION! So -although you WANT to quit game, you must first select squad and start the mission, before you can quit game.
    Ctrl+Alt+Del+ middlefinger. :xmad:

Local Cluster at 100% even though i hadn't been there yet
  • Started a New Game (4th). Haven't traveled much, only Omega and Citadel. But Local Cluster already shows 100% even through i haven't been there yet, and of course the planets inside are still 'virgin', not scanned yet.
How can it say it's 100% then?

Clipping issue in Citadel / Talking to Anderson
  • Not only Shepard but the others too. Shepard the most disturbingly (eyes, hair and armor); to a lesser extent Anderson (eyes), Jacob (not disturbing but still, the eyes), Miranda (eyes a little, hair mainly where it touches her suit) and Udina (eyes) are affected by lots of erratic clipping flickering. Only from a distance, everything is alright closeby.
This happens only at that location, in the Citadel, why is that??? :wth:
(Hard to capture, flickering very fast)
    (upscaled parts of screenshots)

My Femshep also has it in the end-fight with the giant reaper, and in a few other places.

Not only floating characters, - floating objects as well.
Like: stones lying on invisible platform.
(Neith - MSV Corsica Crash Site) Squad walks over the invisible platform.

Message "Press (F) to end the mission" covers conversation options
  • Several levels have this issue.
  • Like in "Help Tali" mission.
End part of level. "Press and hold (F) to end the mission" appears before you have final conversations with everyone in the court, so it's labeled over the conversation options so that you can't read half of them for a minute.

'Taking cover' incapability and 'cover/standup'-issue during combat all over the place in Shadowbroker DLC. It is horrible!
AND: unbelievable but in this 2010 game there is no jump in the movement-options.
One of my favourite games, i mean which i would have considered one of the most beautiful and best games ever made. But the control system sucks big time. :fp: Shepard takes cover when i don't want it and vice versa; keeps standing when she's supposed to duck if the crate/pillar/wall doesn't have the right shape or she just randomly refuses; at places the enemies can just shoot through the solid metal object Shepard is covering behind; the chain of actions dumped into the spacebar making a rediculous ceremony out of a simple action as hopping over a barrier...

all the sublevels where the biggest horror is the control system itself (to name just one: Sheol (Anomaly): Gei Hinnom - Quarian Crash Site).

And just even the simplest thing: why can't they make Shepard holster the gun while steering the crane?! :???: It would look less stupid. :fp:

The controls ruin it, the air-lift bug ruins it, what's left is a very pretty animated interactive drama. The game part sucks on PC. Sad... :((

Re: Mass Effect 2 bugs that didn't make top 3, and other flaws

Crashing most of the times at transition from the Shadowbroker's Lair to return to Normandy.

Driving me nuts!

Fix: add -nomoviestartup to the target path in the MassEffect2.exe shortcut on desktop.
Remove the parameter afterwards, because it may prevent other levels to start at all. For instance: i could not land on Citadel anymore. Until i removed the parameter.

(The parameter is just temporarily useful, for this issue alone.)
