Re: Single player errors and crashes

Post by goteki45 »

It is still giving me errors, I seem to always be getting the "Internal driver error in IDirect3DDevice9:: present()" crash message now. It crashes every time I try to load the second part of Dead Man's Trail. I'm thinking of just stopping until next month's Catalyst drivers come out and seeing if they fix it.

That won't help. It has nothing to do with the ATI drivers and probably also not with your card. Of course, you can try to load that part with lowered graphics settings. If the error still occurs, then your card is not the problem.

Try the snd_mixahead fix on this page item =8= :
Open
?:\....\Dark Messiah of Might and Magic\mm\cfg\config.cfg
with Notepad. Find the line
snd_mixahead "0.1"
Change the value to "0.2" or higher.
Save, exit Notepad.
Play the game.

snd_mixahead didn't fix the issue, but I was finally able to load the second part of Dead Man's Trail when I turned all graphic options to the minimum values. Does this mean the game has issues with my video card?

Hmm.. that is strange, and unexpected. :eh: The Radeon HD4830 is a very good card, a slightly stripped down 4850, but still very capable to run this game. (however Dark Messiah is heavier than any other DX9.0c Source based game)
This behaviour would be expected if you for instance had wrong CCC settings. Please can you post your lowered mm key export (containing the settings you were able to pass that part of the game), AND what your CCC settings for 3D are?

They're at the lowest options available to pick in the settings, should I try raising them until the game stops working to see what exactly makes it crash?

Game settings very low, CCC settings correct.
What's the brand of your card?

Reading back, it seems as though you're running a game that has not applied the patch 1.02. But you're on Steam... Are you sure you enabled the option to 'keep this game updated'?

The card is manufactured by ASUS. I do have the game set to be automatically updated, but I never installed Dark Messiah multi-player. Would installing the multi-player version update files for the single player game?

Edit: opening the console in game brings up the version as build 168.62579 (Master 1.02).

Installing the multiplayer has no effect on the singleplayer whatsoever because both are two completely different seperate games.

Does the rest of the game play as it should, so is it only that part you have trouble with?
What power supply is in your PC, actually?

I do know that previously it crashed at many other points in the game if my graphics settings were high, almost always during a loading screen. I've managed to get my main save to Temple of the Spider by forcing a lower DX level or lowering my graphics options, but it will sometimes still crash even with lower settings. I haven't tried playing through the whole game with all settings at minimum yet, though.

My PSU is an APEVIA ATX-CW500WP4 500W.

Edit: to clarify, whenever my game would crash I would make the settings lower, get beyond the crash point, save, and then raise my settings again.
