Dark Messiah will not start up..pls help!

umm when I first installed the game I waited about 5 mins for something to happen ...

then I got the update and now it gives me the mm.exe has stopped working error after about a minute.

I dont even get a black screen like some people have

Hi Ive installed dark messiah from the dvd and it will not startup I cant even get to the main menu....
(oddly enough the license agreement is blank when installing but only on my pc)

It should be a legal copy since I have the case, multiplayer code and I bought it from Eb games...

Not to mention Ive tried using my friends disk instead and I sill get the same problems..

this is a really fustrating problem..the game used to work when I had vista and was using lower than minimum reqs.


I just remembered this..It could help Idk.. but I had registered MY copy of dark messiah to my steam account..I havent installed it using my steam account though because it would take a long time...

That's strange because you register at the end of the install process.So it is/was installed.
Can you find the game in your My Games list in Steam?

An do you have a [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Steam\Apps\2100] key?

Yeah its in my games list but is listed as not installed..

and yes I do have that key.. here it is

Ok, i understand. You had it installed before on Steam but later uninstalled.
And the recently installed dvd version refuses to even launch.
Hmmm... you installed both patches. But was that needed, i mean you checked your version and your conclusion was it was the unpatched version dvd?

Try: right-click on the shortcut > Properties > In the "Target" box, after the last letter, hit spacebar once, then add the parameter:
-dxlevel 90
click OK. Doubleclick the shortcut to launch the game?

I tried what you said and I still get mm.exe has encountered a problem.

Any suggestions?

1. What is your dvd called in your dvd player? I'm talking about this

2. The license agreement staying blank is very weird. When you installed the game, which language is in the installing menu?

3. You are sure, that you ticked off "install DirectX9.0c" ?

The disk name is DMOMMGNC .

I made sure to untick direct X c.


As far as I know it was english.

OK let's check your Steam.
1. In your Steam\SteamApps\*your account*\ folder, is there a "dark messiah might and magic singleplayer" folder?
It should not be, but Steam sometimes does a bad job uninstalling (leaving the game files intact).
2. How old is your Steam installation?

I cant find the folder you want me to... I checked in steam apps yet there is no folder with my account name


I downloaded it a week or so ago and it was updated yesterday.
