New monitor soon... moving from CRT to LCD Widescreen

Post by Blín D'ñero »

When i can afford a new monitor this one seems to offer what i'm looking for:
Dell UltraSharp U2410 24in Monitor Review @ trustedreviews
Verdict

While not perfect, Dell’s new IPS-based 24in 1,920 x 1,200 pixel monitor offers streamlined design, outstanding ergonomics, almost every connection we could ask for and generally impressive image quality to boot. Minor flaws aside, it’s the best 24in monitor available for the money right now, whether you’re a discerning gamer, graphics enthusiast or just someone who likes working on an excellent screen

*The fix was in place on November 20 for the sRGB dithering. Even though the fix was put to all in the factory and hubs, the label may not have been changed

Or, Iiyama ProLite E2607WS
reviewed at microdirect
Visual performance is good for the price point. Basic performance is unexceptional, but the OptiColor option gives crude control of gamma, brightness and colour which can be fine-tuned by hand. ‘Picture’ mode is too dark, ‘Standard’ is too bright, but ‘Game’ mode looks reasonable. Viewing angles are limited and the brightness isn’t very even. Colour linearity is noticeably wobbly, and with a limited gamut even a calibrator can only do so much to bring it into line. But video performance is good, with fast switching and very little smearing.

The verdict isn’t entirely negative. Colour control and overall performance aren’t significantly worse than that of the other budget models in this round-up, which means that considering the price, you get a lot of monitor for your money. It’s unrealistic to expect a budget monitor to produce professional results, so this isn’t a cheap substitute for a high-end model. But it’s a plausible money-saving, entry level option for a start-up, offering good-enough colour performance at a very attractive asking price.

Re: New monitor soon... moving from CRT to LCD Widescreen

The Dell arrived today.
Getting used to it at the moment, enjoying the larger desktop space, and the displaying of games. Because it is 60 Hz, my videocards are stressed a little less than previous on my CRT which was always at 85Hz. Sofar it's awesome! :D

So,
  1. i entered the widescreen world. 1920 x 1200 goodness.
  2. I entered the 60 Hz world. While that would be awful on a CRT, i'm astonished on an LCD it's completely normal, no flickering, looks just solid and natural.
Hey, mine is listed here, the Dell U2410.

I was used to top class CRT's. But the display experience i am now getting from this Dell U2410 is clearly much better:
1. much sharper, crisp sharp.
2. perfect geometry from corner to corner
3. much richer in colours (Adobe RGB) (it's also well calibrated out of the box and the presets (like Game) are very handy)
4. much more comfortable to the eyes: relaxed

I'd like to throw my CRT's out of the window and have 4 of these!
