Major FPS drops in single player.

Whenever playing Dark Messiah Single player, I get massive FPS drops within 5 minutes of playing. My problem is pretty much spot on the same as Point 3.3 of your troubleshooting guide. I have Vsync disabled and my computer was reformatted just last month. So I know it isn't a steam related issue. I'd like to note that when I used XP 32 bit (on the same computer) I had absolutely no problems what so ever.

1. Clean install of steam, no backups of any kind. I downloaded the latest installer straight from their website.

2. D:\ E:\ and F:\ are backup drives, I do not use them for gaming. Just C:\

So the game is newly downloaded too?

done "Verify integrity" check and defragment local files (right-click the game in the Steam Games library > properties)?
Unnecessary programs shut down, no other processes running on the background, antivirus disabled (or reboot without), and defragmented C:\ (all basic items in this post ?

Ok.

I've gone through the entire "MAKE SURE YOUR SYSTEM IS IN GOOD SHAPE FOR GAMING " section, and nothing has worked. I'd like to note that this is probably my 3rd or 4th reformat of Win7, and the problem occurs during every installation.

When I used XP 32 bit I had no problem what so ever. I've played this game since it was released. When I built this new PC, I was still able to play with no problems. After a while I decided to upgrade to 64 bit windows 7, and am now unable to play the game. I've been told that other people run on win7 no problem but it's the only thing that's ever really changed.

Multiplayer works 100% by the way, no lag or crashes of any kind; if that helps at all.

I'm not there with you. We have to communicate via text so please answer the questions directly with a yes or no.
  • Did you install the Intel chipset drivers?
  • Do you have all patches and updates from Windows Update?
  • What program do you use for defragmenting?

No. There aren't any chipset drivers for my processor available via website, and the processor certainly didn't come with a disk or anything. If there were any available, I'm sure I would have had them installed via the windows 7 updates.

Of course, my bad. You have a 780i SLI based motherboard. Did you install the latest nForce driver for 780i SLI

Another thing you could try is to set a fixed heapsize:

With Windows 7 installing most drivers for me automatically, I had completely forgotten about the motherboard drivers.

I installed those, and adjusted the pagedpoolsize to 256MB, but unfortunately nothing changed. The game still runs like crap. :/
