Worked on XP not on Windows 7
Re: Worked on XP not on Windows 7
tried upping the ddr voltage. nothing.
as for voltage
as per this
https://www.samsung.com/global/system/bu ... rev102.pdf
pg 13
recommended voltage of 1.9 max.... absolute maximum of 2.3

... K, new issue
Check out my temps using "CPUID hardware monitor"
and core temp 0.99.8
they say that I'm running really hot, like 70-80 C on my cores...
My max range is 55-63 c
So I check my voltage.
by default it's set to 1.4v
however. with my cpu AMD athlon 64 x2 6000+ brisbane The volts that is should be running at are between 1.25 and 1.35
So I switch it down in bios. to 1.3. the temps get a lot better.
Only problem is now my prime tests seem to be giving me errors even faster.
1.30 v is the stable one for temps.
if I go any lower I get BSOD on start up.

Re: Worked on XP not on Windows 7
So, no errors at 1.30 v on the cpu?
What temperature does it do now?
You assembled the PC yourself... so, any good CPU cooler, good paste applied?
Is the case large enough (inner space, air amount) and sufficient airflow from fans ?

Re: Worked on XP not on Windows 7
I get errors at 1.3v
I just it was better for temps.
I think I found the issue.
Droped clock ration from 15.5 to 15
4sticks @
200 CPU frequency
cpu voltage 1.3v
clock ratio 15x
6-6-6-18 rowcycle 24
Trfc 195ns
managed to get prime 95 to run for 3hours and 59 mins, then it crashed. Most people recommend getting it to run for 6 hours or more. Not really sure what to do now.
Seems like dropping the core ratio seems to be helping.
Changing my voltages doesn't do anything, other than lower my temp.
If anything changing my ram voltages it looks like it makes it more unstable.
maybe I should try to drop down another step with the multiplier. Sucks that I am basically under clocking my computer to get it to work.

Re: Worked on XP not on Windows 7
Yes you should have run it 6 hours, and no crash.
But if you drop ratio, voltage should also be dropped, slightly.
But you didn't reply:
Because if not, that could explain all your symptoms.
But that could be an indication that the cpu is already damaged.seoulguy wrote: Sucks that I am basically under clocking my computer to get it to work.

Re: Worked on XP not on Windows 7
I didn't assemble everything myself
the cpu and cooler were assembled by the shop I bought it from.
I have since took the cooler off, cleaned it, reapplied thermal paste and attached it back on. From what I can tell it's on good.
drop the voltage?. K. It's at 1.3 right now. I can drop it more. I'll see what this bunch of tests gives me. I'm running it at 14.5 x ratio.
as for the cooler itself. it's just the stock cooler that came with the cpu.

Re: Worked on XP not on Windows 7
Instead of lowering the multiplier on the cpu clock, you could try if lowering the DRAM speed solves the issue. Because you have 8 GB, which doesn't allow so much for speed as only 4 GB or 2 GB would.
So your base clock is 200 Mhz? with a multi of 15 that makes 3 Ghz. But what makes that run the RAM?
Can you select a base clock of 333, with a multi of 9.5x that would make 3.1 Ghz as well... what does that do to the link with the DRAM clock, the result?
I'm only used to Intel based boards, so can't tell much for yours AMD based.
On my PC's i have the CPU overclocked and the RAM is slightly underclocked, example:
i7 920 @ 3.8 Ghz --- 12 GB 1600 RAM running at 1459 Mhz
E8400 @ 3.8 Ghz --- 8 GB 1066 RAM running at 1057 Mhz

Re: Worked on XP not on Windows 7
ya, no dice.
Tried a bunch of combinations. can get it to start as low as 13 x. but nothing stable.
anything less and it wont start, or I get BSOD
and that's even with trying at a low speed of 3.0 Ghz for example 230 and 13x.
if it's a heat issue, and I get a new heat sink, then pump up the voltage, assuming I can because the new sink will give me better temps, you think I will then be able to get 3.1? By trying to go back to 15.5x 200.
How much of a difference will it actually make in performance?

Re: Worked on XP not on Windows 7
So - the motherboard doesn't support the cpu -
- and to get it to work stable you need to in effect underclock and lower the voltage... The same thing I did.
So. Should I take this a hint that this may be the highest I can go?
Now. would it be worth while trying out a new cpu? I don't think I can really go much higher.
here's a list of supported cpus
https://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloa ... x?pid=2607
if I run am2+ or am3 the bus speed is lowered from HT3.0(5200 MT/s) to HT1.0 (2000 MT/s)
I think I should probably just save up for a whole new system.
