Try: in Steam Settings -> tab Interface make Steam NOT startup with Windows by UNcheck "Run Steam when my computer starts".
Reboot the PC.
Open your Steam directory, find ClientRegistry.blob and delete it. (or if you don't trust that, create a "New Folder" and put it in there. The game will think it does not exist anymore) and a new one will automatically be created later when you restart Steam.

Do the same steps as before, but this time do not cut and paste, but copy and paste so that you have the binkw32.dll at both places (inside and outside the bin folder).

Restart Steam.
Try the game.

Oh sorry:
  1. make sure Steam is not running.
  2. copy and paste binkw32.dll, so you now have it at both places (inside and outside the bin folder).
    • You could also remove the mm key in Registry [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Source\mm]
  3. Then rebooot the PC (reading back i see that this is the step you forgot) :fact:
  4. Then launch Steam, and try the game again.

Yes, reboot the PC = restart the PC.
It is a crucial step after you have made your edit, because otherwise Steam will restore things back to how they were. Only after a reboot of PC it will accept your edit.

2 questions:
  1. How did you reboot?
  2. Do you have administrator rights on this PC?
You should redo the process.
Steps 2 and 3 should not be necessary but in your case do it. It can never hurt.
  1. Exit Steam, also via the Taskbar icon -> Exit Also via TaskManager -> tab Processes -> right-click on steam.exe > End Process
  2. Delete the mm key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Source\mm]
  3. delete your ClientRegistry.blob
  4. Copy the binkw32.dll file from
steamapps\*your account*\dark messiah might and magic single player\bin
  5. paste it in
steamapps\*your account*\dark messiah might and magic single player
  6. reboot the PC
  7. Launch Steam
  8. Start the game
