Re: Re-installing Windows 7

Yes, seems fixed: cold boot instant success.
I think the reseating of videocards did it.

Another odd behaviour is when i turn the PC on, it will get into a sort of sleep mode before POST. I have to turn the PC on again. This is caused by ACPI 2.0 Support function that i enabled together with Suspend Mode on S1 (POS) only before i installed Windows 7. [Yes it's a form of sleeping, "G1" (wiki)]
I don't want that, regret that i did that, i have put Suspend Mode to [Auto] and if needed i will soon reinstall Windows 7 with those features disabled.
For the rest i am completely statisfied with my current settings.
My current settings:

Re: Re-installing Windows 7 trying to fix some problems

Post by Blín D'ñero »

I read everything that is written in techarp's power management guide and the bios guide.

Yes, i think i messed up the ACPI 2.0 thing, and some other settings like C1E, etc...

When i started upping my overclock, from my 2-year usual 3.8 exceeding to 4.2 Ghz i changed settings. Possibly that's where it went wrong, creating a power-management mess, resulting in the odd videocard behaviour.

Will format/reinstall now.

Re: Re-installing Windows 7 trying to fix some problems

Post by Blín D'ñero »

Most of the times cold boot will fail, i need to hit that button 2, 3 times before it actually boots up. It now only happens before POST though. I have tried many different settings, options now exhausted. And i am too. I give up.
The videocard issue never happens anymore. When in Windows there is not the slightest problem whatsoever. So, i don't care anymore about the bootup problem. :-|-:

I keep the current conservative oc. I had it for days at 4 ghz with a 0.02500 volts bump to [1.25000V] ; cpu max temp was 71 degrees. But i see no point in 4 ghz. 3.8 is enough and about 67 degrees max.

Re: Re-installing Windows 7 trying to fix some problems

Post by Blín D'ñero »

Played Crysis 2 for almost 5 hours. There's nothing wrong with my settings, that are more or less the same as what i have been using the past 2 years. The cold boot problem is new.

Wait right there. I i just saw i had AddOn ROM Display Mode to [Force BIOS]. Maybe that had the machine confused. Set to "Keep Current" as it should. Now wait and see how it will cold boot up later./

Hmm. Makes no difference.

I've now changed
  • QPI/DRAM Core Voltage: [1.35000]
to
[1.40000]
and
  • IOH Voltage: [1.26]
to
[1.36]
and upped my
  • DRAM Bus Voltage: [1.64]

to
[1.66] again.

See what it does tomorrow morning.

Yes!!! Full success! :jump:

It would make sense: the cold boot problem was a "RAM not getting enough juice to start" issue?

Hmm. Today, videocard's fan started to blow 100% before POST.
So now i try reducing CPU PLL, from
  • CPU PLL Voltage: [1.88]

to
  • CPU PLL Voltage: [1.82]

it seemed to help for one day.
But the problem came back.
I reapplied 1.88
... hoping that helps for a next time. :(
