CPU-Z is wrong, RealTemp is right

Post by Blín D'ñero »

I have my i7 920 overclocked @ 3.822Ghz using the 21x multiplier and Baseclock 182.

CPU-Z is wrong, RealTemp is right. You see:
(Speedstep is enabled, so while making the screenshot Realtemp reads a lower idle speed of 3185 and multiplier of 17.5
BUT CPU-z claims i am running multiplier 22X -which does not even exist on this CPU- and obviously cpu-z does not monitor actual speeds of the moment (idle/load))
Image
It does not even exist a 22x multiplier with the i7 920!
RealTemp reads the actual multiplier at the moment, which fluctuates depending on the load.
Idle on my desktop, CPU-Z just interprets from the BIOS (i guess) and not even correctly.
(My explanation: It is tricked by my Asus board, that makes smart use of Turbo to offer a 21x multiplier to i7 920 users, nomally they would max at 20x. And with my Turbo setting "enabled" it adds a step to the 21x multiplier.)

The moment i start the Sensor test (with Prime95), CPU-Z correctly starts showing 21x, and 3822 Mhz (just like RealTemp), which is correct at full load.

Too many people rely on CPU-Z in their tests without any good reason.
What else is wrong or right in CPU-Z, i don't know, you tell me.

It is just like Windows Experience Index that is tricked by the ½ multiplier: my E8400 runs at 8½ x 450 = 3.8 Ghz. WEI never gets that right: it thinks it is 8 x 450 = 3.6 Ghz.

CPU-Z latest version, 1.60. It says my Radeon HD 7970's have 1024 MB VRAM.... :fp:

For those who don't know: these cards have 3 GB VRAM each. We're not talking about an old version of CPU-Z, no this is their latest version.

Why have a tab "Graphics" if it doesn't even read correctly? :clown:
