Catalyst 12.4 WHQL, no CAP installed.
I installed latest Afterburner (2.20) and played Crysis 2 Ultra DX11 for a little while, running the cards at 1100/1575, first with vsync enabled, and the second run without vsync.

Scaling is perfect. Performance too: roughly 97 fps average, not bad @ 2560 x 1600.

What i find strange however is the 3D-clock spikes on GPU1 while in idle (Windows desktop, after installing Afterburner and before running any game). They are confirmed on the AMD Overdrive page in CCC. I didn't notice it before i saw it in Afterburner, and it has no impact on performance.

So i rebooted and the issue seemed gone at first: perfect straight lines. As soon as i touched the mouse however, it reappeared --until i stopped touching input. Maybe it's not an issue but a feature, i don't know.

With vsync:

Just seen this:
Get the latest BIOS version of ASUS X79 motherboards for optimal PCI Express 3.0 support. Simply click on your model.
On this page.
Asus offering BIOS updates to enable PCI-E 3.0 on not only X79, but even a selection of Z68 boards.... excluding mine! So much for futureproofness...

Very rare, but two times the USB mouse was gone. I found out that then this helps:
in BIOS check off the option for Legacy USB devices and reboot. Or when it's off, turn it on and reboot. Make sure the mouse is in the exact same USB port, or switch to another set of ports (at the backside of motherboard usually are pairs).
My Logitech G7 had no problem while my Razer Imperator 2012 failed repeatedly. But after this trick its drivers installed.

Re: My new PC [March 2012] - Asus Maximus IV Extreme-Z

Post by Blín D'ñero »

After several updates, this thread's PC now consists of these components:

Intel i7 2700K @ 4.8 Ghz
Zalman CPNS9900-A LED
Asus Maximus IV Extreme-Z
32 GB DDR3 DRAM 1866MHz C9 Vengeance Pro CMY32GX3M4A1866C9 (Corsair tested latency: 9-10-9-27; voltage: 1.5V).
2 × Sapphire HD7970 (Crossfire)
Creative Soundblaster ZxR
3 × Dell U2410 @ 5760 × 1200 / 60Hz Eyefinity
Corsair HX 1000i.
2 × WDC WD1003FZEX
5 × WDC WD3003FZEX
Optiarc AD 5240S
Steelseries 7G
Razer Imperator 2012
Steelseries SX
Coolermaster STC T01
Edifier S730D
Windows 7 Ultimate x64

And i have bought a new CPU cooler: Noctua NH-D15 (to replace the Zalman CPNS9900-A LED). A quick look took away my worry that it would block the first PCI-E slot of my Maximus IV Extreme-Z in which i have the digital sister card of my ZxR soundcard. But luckily the Extreme-Z motherboard does not even have a PCI-E slot at that place: the slots start one 'slot-space' lower!
So when i will be replacing the Zalman i don't have to change anything on the rest of my hardware configuration.

More than 8 years running without any problem. (this compliment is aimed at the motherboard, the hardware product with its components). Really good stuff.
