Does Radeon Crimson driver not like my R9 290's ? [update: FIXED]

I went from 15.12 to 16.2 to 16.3 to 16.3.1 to 16.4.1.

I got artifacts in 2D. and by the way the control panel was seeing my GPU's in the wrong order. That reminded me to disable ULPS. It didn't matter, still artifacts in 2D.

I switched the cards.

I did not experience problems during gaming, though i have hardly played any game during the period from november last year till a week ago.

The problem is with the Crimson drivers they don't seem to be playing nicely on R9 290, in 2D at least.

I reverted to Catalyst 15.7.1. Problem solved!

The problem reappeared. :eh:

In a minor, less pronounced form though. Slight artifacts at introduction menus of games.

But still.

Currently updating my motherboard's bios... :inv:

Well the issue seems to be solved!

The first case it was a hardware issue: a part of my PC case obstructed the CPU fan. It did not turn at all. Hence the artifacts.

The culprit was the socket (with extruded clips) holding the sidepanel fan. I removed the socket and screwed the sidepanel fan directly onto the panel. Gained me about a centimeter (distance from the CPU-fan), more than enough to fix the issue.

The second case turns out that i must enable AMD Overdrive and expand power max for both cards to 50%. Without it i get artifacts when crossfire is enabled, not with a single card/. (I can imagine that could be related to the motherboard bios settings being set to defaults/auto after the bios update. I yet have to redo most of the settings for optimization.)

NEXT i will reinstall Radeon Crimson... :yep: might not be the driver to blame after all... :inv:

So i reinstalled Radeon Crimson 16.4.1. Fixed. No problem with the driver whatsoever.

Settings are at default. No need to change the power max limit or anything.

Radeon Crimson driver likes my R9 290's. :)
