Yes on XP (+gaming), recommendable is to have at least 2 GB.
DDR2 RAM is relatively cheap nowadays and XP cannot read/use more than about 3.25 GB.
This theoretical amount is reduced by the physical amount your motherboard supports.
How much your motherboard supports, should be in the manual. Or use SIW (standalone) (freeware); maybe it tells how much it supports, at least it will inform what motherboard it has.
