Building on the tried and tested Cosmos 1000, the Coolermaster Cosmos S brings some very welcome improvements, such as an improved cooling solution and a more aggressive look. The king has died, long live the new king? Let us find out.
Conclusion
The Cosmos S is nothing short of an amazing case. CoolerMaster have taken the original Cosmos design and made some major changes to make it look even more high-tech. The darker colors as well as the red lights used on the front fan, power button and connectors give the case a mean look that will feel right at home in any enthusiasts setup. The capacitive sensitive power button gives the case a unique feature while the connectors located on the top ensure file transfers to external devices will never be a problem.
Inside the case the Cosmos S copies the tested design of the original Cosmos, giving plenty of room to install ATX and e-ATX motherboards. Holes cut into the case shell ensure that PSU cables won’t interfere with the airflow generated by the supplied 120mm fans. The side 200mm fan is the icing on the cake, almost doubling the airflow across the entire surface of the motherboard, with the GPU slots located directly underneath it. Noise levels are also good, thanks to the low RPM rate of all fans. It is worth pointing out that due to the meshed design certain components generate more noise than usual – a shortcoming the original Cosmos did not have.
With seven bays dedicated to 5.25˝devices users should never run out of room to install peripherals. The four hard-drive module also ensures that there is enough room for 3.5˝ devices. An extra 5th unit can be installed by sacrificing one of the 5.25˝ bays. The button system used to hold the devices in place ensures minimal tools are needed when building the system, but we did dislike the excess force needed to push the optical drives into place.
Don’t let these minor shortcomings put you off this otherwise perfect case – if you have the room to house this behemoth, the CoolerMaster Cosmos S is without doubt the best enthusiast’s case available right now.
Great build!
